Family album

Family album is an intimate exploration of the conventions, roles, and emotions in the context of a family history and collective memory. The work consists of three different parts: (i) drawings of silhouettes of people from my family photographic album; (ii) descriptions of the content of these photographs from my own memory; while the third part, (iii) holds a single ''portrait''. This single ''portrait'' is only presented in a descriptive text, which is based on real memories, feelings, and experiences, but it is, by its nature, a construct of imagination.

The work openly shares personal segments of the family history, questioning all the existing conventions. What is the family role we were given? Is the memory of one family universal and how does it correspond with broader political and social contexts? Are there such things as personal and private when it comes to writing a history? The work does not answer these questions directly but rather gives just fragments and hints, letting the viewer continue this search.
